St. Vincent de Paul Society
Become a Vincentian
The Society of St. Vincent DePaul (SVdP) is a Catholic lay organization that helps those in need. We offer person-to-person service to individuals and families who find themselves needing help.
Our conference is a small group of dedicated women and men, who in a spiritually based environment, is focused on helping those area residents in need.
Membership in our conference will allow you make new friendships with conference members, share your talents while helping area families who have reached out for help.
Conference works go beyond our monthly pantry operations, holiday dinner distributions and helping with utility, rental, and other household needs.
We need your help.
Society membership is open to all age groups. By becoming a Vincentian, you will find yourself growing in God’s love and at the same time reaping the rewards of making a difference in a neighbor’s life.
Please a take a minute to consider becoming a Vincentian. Consider joining us at one of our meetings or help us at one of our monthly food distributions. You may wish to join with a friend, invite her or him to join with you in becoming a Vincentian.
We can be reached at 732-224-1395 of by email at stcatharinesvdp@gmail.com
SVdP Background
Founded by Blessed Frederick Ozanam, a 20-year-old college student, and following the example set by St. Vincent DePaul, The Society of St. Vincent DePaul had its beginnings in Paris France in 1833. In 1845 the Society came to America and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Inspired by Gospel values, by serving the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, the Society is a Catholic lay organization made up of women and men who join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need of help. Society members are known as Vincentians. The Society is an international organization made up of Parish based conferences. It is at the conference level that the work of the Society is done. One hundred percent of the donations we receive are used for the benefit of the Neighbors we serve.
Our Conference held its first meeting here at The Church of St. Catharine on June 9, 1983. There were 9 members in attendance one of which was Deacon John Flanagan who held the post of spiritual advisor.
In addition to our monthly food distributions, other activities include Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinner food distributions.
If you have only a few hours a month to help us in our mission by volunteering Please contact us at 732-224-1395. We have a real need for volunteers in order that we may continue to accomplish our mission.
