Confirmation Information
General Information, Rules & Procedures
Class Times:
Classes are held once per month on Sunday’s from 1:15pm – 3:00 p.m.
Grade 8 Confirmation Program Rules:
All students are expected to arrive on-time, and be prepared for class.
All students are strongly encouraged to attend the 12:00pm Mass
Arrival Procedures:
Please drop your child/children off at the Religious Education building
Dismissal Procedures:
Classes will be dismissed from the back of the Religious Education Building at 3:00 p.m. (Please park your car and walk up to meet your child/children at the Back Entrance.)
Attendance:
All students are expected to attend each session. In cases of illness or family emergency please contact your child’s catechist and the Religious Education Office.
Communication:
www.stcatharine.net for all calendar and parent information, etc.
All communications with parents/guardians will be emailed and also will be posted to the website.
We will send you an email alerting you to go to the website for any pertinent information or calendar changes.
Cancellations:
In case of an emergency closing, we will post on the website and send out an email alert.
Snack
Pizza and water will be served. If your child has any allergies/medical conditions, please send him/her with their own snack. (peanut free only)
Volunteering:
All parents are expected to volunteer for a minimum of 2 hours per year. There are many opportunities for parents to be active and involved. Please contact us for information.
Family Information:
Please be sure to notify us if any of your contact information changes, example: address, phone number, cell phone number, email address or emergency contact information.
Please be sure to notify us if any of your child/children’s information changes, examples: learning, medical or allergy information.
Parents are the Primary Educators of the Faith:
As the primary educators of your children and being the role models for their faith, we count on your support and guidance that what is learned at class each month is connected at home, and their everyday living.
Mass Attendance:
Please bring your child to Mass each week. This helps to reinforce who we are as Catholic Christians, and that they are fully, active and participating members of the Body of Christ.
Requirements for Confirmation:
Candidates
To be confirmed, one must
- be a baptized person who has not been confirmed
- be suitably instructed, properly disposed, and able to renew the baptismal promises
Candidates should
- present a certificate of Baptism, if the sacrament was received at another parish
- choose a Saint name, (or keep their baptismal name)
- write a letter to the bishop or pastor indicating readiness and desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation
Sponsors
To be a sponsor for a Confirmation candidate, one must
- be designated by the candidate, by the candidate’s parents (or guardian), or in their absence, by the pastor, and must have the intention of being a sponsor – the sponsor may be male or female and cannot be the candidate’s parents
- be the baptismal sponsor, if possible
- be at least 16 years of age
- be a Catholic who has been confirmed and practices their faith
