Sunday Mornings

Children’s Liturgy of the Word
(October – May)

Jesus said:  ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.’  Then he put his arms around them, laid his hands on them, and gave them his blessing” (Mark 10:14,16).

Jesus made a special point of welcoming children.  In his great love for them, he put his arms around them and gave them his blessing.  Children’s Liturgy of the Word is adapted so that children may more easily understand the Word of God and, through the Word, be touched and blessed by this same Jesus who is ever present in his Word.

What ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’ means:

  • The term ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’ refers to the practice of children leaving the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gathering elsewhere to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding.

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings for children who are in Kindergarten to 3rd grade.   The children leave the church and proceed to the chapel before the First Reading and return to the main church at the Presentation of the Gifts.  Volunteers proclaim the readings and the Gospel for the children at their level and help them understand the message and how they can live it in their lives.
